Joey Antonio has been a visual performance artist since 2013, after learning American Sign Language (ASL), although dancing and performing have long been central to his life. He has connected with Deaf communities worldwide, enriching his artistic journey. A pivotal moment came when he participated in a music video production featuring a Deaf and Hard of Hearing cast, inspiring a much-needed shift in his career. Joey thrives in the creative process of producing ASL music videos, from translating lyrics to character development.
In recent years, Joey has worked with several Deaf-centered productions, including 'RENT' by Deaf Broadway at Lincoln Center, 'The Laramie Project' by Deaf Austin Theatre, 'Sesame Street' in ASL by Hypernovas Productions, and 'Spring Awakening' by Deaf West Theatre. After completing his studies at Gallaudet University, Joey began working with the Sign Language Center. He is passionate about expanding a multilingual, multicultural, and collaborative network both virtually and physically, with the goal of connecting communities through sign language.
